How do I play?
Every game has a board of words. The clue giver can see which words are their side’s. They give a one-word clue and a number: how many words it points to. Their partner taps the words they think it means.
Find all your words to win. Careful, though: some words help the other side, and one ends the game on the spot. A clue has to be a single word, and it can’t be one of the words on the board.
How do I join a friend’s game?
Tap the link they sent you. If you have CleverWords, it opens the game. If you don’t, install it, then tap the link again.
You can also use the five-letter game code: open CleverWords, choose Join a game with a code, and type it in.
How do turn reminders work?
We send a notification when it’s your turn. If a friend’s taking a while, tap Nudge on the game and we’ll remind them.
Not getting notifications? Check that they’re on: on iPhone, Settings → Notifications → CleverWords; on Android, Settings → Apps → CleverWords → Notifications.
What is Regulars, and how do I restore it?
Regulars is our optional membership: no ads, the member mark and paper stock, and more games at once with new players. It helps keep CleverWords going.
On a new phone, sign in with the same account and tap Restore purchases under You. To cancel a subscription, use your App Store account settings or Google Play’s Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel it.
Bought Remove Ads in an earlier version? You’re a Charter Member, with Regulars for life. Restore on the same Apple ID brings it back. If it doesn’t, email us and we’ll sort it out.
I played CodeWords. Where are my games?
CodeWords is now CleverWords. On the welcome screen, tap I already play and sign in the way you did before. Your games, friends and stats come with you.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to You → Delete account. If you can’t get into the app, use the deletion request form.
Report abuse
CleverWords has zero tolerance for harassment, hate and abusive players. In the app, long-press a message, or open a player’s name or photo, to Report or Block them. Reports come straight to us and we review them promptly, normally within 24 hours. Blocking stops them reaching you right away.
You can also email support@cleverwords.app with the player’s name, the game, and what happened. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
